Before even installing on my boat this thing has been garbage. Map update software crashes on a brand new laptop. Tried 3 other computers until one would actually run this trash called C-MAP x chart updater. After finally being able to update the map, it actually downgraded it and seems to have lost the ability to show red and green navaids.C-Map software is beta trash and I've tried to contact them with no response.Get this fixed or this unit is going back to Amazon and I well be returning to… Garmin.DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITH C-MAP CHARTS UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!!The NSX is a very nice piece that is let down by crappy software.Update: Simrad has stepped up and sent me a new chart card which has fixed the problems. I haven't tried to update it and probably won't for a while. Now a 4 star product. Thanks to the numerous Navico people who got involved.
We bought the 9 inch NSX 3009 unit to replace our Lowrance HDS carbon 7” unit. First of all, the 2” of extra screen make a huge difference and the screen on the Simrad is much easier to see in sunlight or from an angle. It also has all touch screen controls like our phones instead of clicking up, down, left and right, and all the other clunky buttons. We fish mostly inland waters and this is a huge upgrade for us. We’re looking forward to learning more about the chart plotting features but so f…ar we are very happy with our combo unit which included the transducer.
Easy to install and use. It’s a major upgrade from my last fish finder.
This unit is basically replacing the Simrad Go units. However, for the price, the direct competitor would be the Raymarine Axiom+ which in retrospect is what I wish I had purchased. What is in this system works great except for the chartplotting. apps change quickly, little to no lag, connectivity is good. However, with modern tech, it seems like this should be table stakes. This unit currently does not allow you to utilize any other plotting software other than C-MAP which is an inferior prod…uct in so many ways. Every other unit out there provides the basic ability to have at least a couple choices of mapping software, this is almost stupid that they lock you in. What to get the latest in fishing mapping software like CMOR? Nope, not available with this. I don't see how this can be considered a serious product until they change this. As such, it should be half the price of what I paid; how do I get my money back, so no can do.Other features that should be basic with modern tech and is included on Axiom is screen mirroring. It has hotspot and wifi tech in the device; big deal, the companion app is almost worthless and provides no screen mirroring. forcing you to purchase additional MFDs instead of allowing an easy solution. The only reason I purchased this over the Axiom is that this will conceivably be better able to connect to a trolling motor in the future; a feature lacking on the Axiom because of its inability to negotiate with trolling motor companies. However, with the Simrad NSX, even this feature is not yet available; I'm not sure that this one feature makes up for the shortcomings of the NSX; I thought it would for me but now I just regret purchasing this expensive product with glaring holes.I will revise my review if Simrad wakes up and makes other mapping available; however, I'm not holding my breath. I called their customer service and they said there are no current plans to upgrade and the current map isn't really that bad. At this price I don't want "not that bad" it should be fantastic and if its not, I should be able to try something else. Customers want choices above everything else, you would think product companies would know that by now but they never learn. At the end of the day, if you have this amount of money, purchase an Axiom instead.
The chartplotter itself is nice enough, though the touch screen has a horrible delay. It does not, however, come with the reports CMAP Discover-X chart.
Accurate, must have for boating
A really exceptional fish finder. Easy setup, no problems with the installation, just followed the setup wizard. Operation is intuitive and makes sense. Incredible resolution and detail. This is my first experience with side scan feature, but it is a very impressive feature, and resolution was awesome. The touch screen is super easy to use and very responsive, even with my fingers wet. Tons of features that I look forward to using.
Unit has been pretty easy to use. Feels like my iPhone and map is simple. My husband and I recently purchased a boat and are new to the boating scene which worried us for choosing a good unit. So far it has done a good job.
I had an older Simrad that worked just fine. Handed that one down and upgraded with the newest version (NSX3009). Love the Simrad products. Ease of use, screen visibility and customer service is excellent. One big improvement that I have noticed is that the interface is much easier to use and much more intuitive. Can't imagine going with another brand. Looking forward to purchasing a larger boat and then equipping it with a larger Simrad unit!! Happy boating/fishing!!
